OTC Tournament Guidelines

These guidelines are applicable to all OTC tournaments. Tournaments are all levels team format, with both doubles and singles competitions. Participants are divided into four teams based on level of play, with a focus on creating a similar range of ability on each team. Each team has a captain who will determine each player’s role on the team. Each team will have two singles positions and two doubles positions.

FORMAT

  • Each match consists of 2 singles and 2 doubles matches. 

  • Team Winners will be decided by games won REGARDLESS of matches won! 

  • New balls provided for each match

WARM-UPS

  • There will be a strictly enforced 7 minute warm up for each match.

SCORING 

  • All matches will be one 8-game pro set with a regular set tiebreaker at 7 games all. 

  • If a game goes to deuce, there will be a single deuce round for the first deuce only. (Players must win both the deuce and the ad point to win the game.) If the game goes to a second deuce, then it will be decided by a sudden death point. The receiving team may decide who receives the sudden death point. The winner of that point wins the game.

  • Every game won = 1 point for that team. If you win the match, you earn an additional point. The team with the most points at the end of play is the winner.

  • Doubles will play first, and Singles will play second. 

  • Each match up will be allocated 90 minutes to play.

TO REGISTER:

  1. Fill out the registration form.

  2. Send your Venmo payment ($40 for OTC members; $50 for nonmembers) to @orcastennisclub. Cash and check also accepted. Contact Brad Waites for payment.

  3. Your team captain will reach out in the week before the tournament to get your playing preferences and answer any questions

  4. Show up for your match!

SCHEDULE

Specific teams will be assigned to the A, B, C & D slots shortly before the tournament. You may register even if you are not be able to make one session of the tournament; just be sure and notify your captain well in advance. Your team captain will confirm your schedule with you before the tournament.

PLEASE ARRIVE EARLY FOR YOUR MATCHES. IF YOU ARE LATE, AN ALTERNATIVE TEAM MEMBER WILL BE SUBSTITUTED.

Friday:

A vs B - 2:30-4:30

C vs D - 5:00-7:00

Happy Hour Potluck 6:00ish - Bellinis for everyone of age. Bring an appetizer to share!

Saturday:

B vs C - 8:30-10:30

A vs D - 11:00-1:00

Lunch/snacks provided by OTC - 12:00ish

A vs C - 1:30-3:30

B vs D - 4:00-6:00

Sunday:

3rd/4th place - 9:00-11:00

1st/2nd place - 12:00-2:00
